Frankye Dale Curtis, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester, MD on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 due to complications from dementia. She was 84 years of age and had lived in Huntington, WV for most of her life. Ms. Curtis was born in Blue Diamond, Kentucky on October 31, 1926 to the late Frank and Viola Phillips Dale. She was the wife of Howard L. Curtis, Sr., who passed away in 1985. He had retired from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in 1984 after more than 40 years of service. Ms. Curtis also worked for C&O for over 40 years prior to her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church for 47 years. Ms. Curtis was long ago preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. A fourth sister, Norma June Dale, died in March of 2011. Ms. Curtis’ son, Howard Curtis, Jr., passed away in 2008. Survivors include her two daughters, Sharon Curtis Steele (Bill) of Jacksonville, FL and Catherine Curtis Laib (Nevin) of Finksburg, MD; five grandchildren, Howard Curtis, III, Carrie Curtis, Scott Steele, Elissa Laib, and Eric Laib; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler Curtis, Michael Curtis, Alexandria Steele, and Elissa Steele. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Friends may call at the mortuary from 12:00 to 2:00. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
