Obituary

Jean Hall Thomas
(March 7, 1931 - September 11, 2010)

Jean Hall Thomas, 79, of Huntington, entered heaven while surrounded by her family, pastor, and his wife on Saturday September 11, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday September 14, 2010 at Chapman's Mortuary with Pastor Larry Greene officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Samson, Matt Duffield, Kolby Johnson, Waymond Thurman, Scott Ferguson, and Roger Samson. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. She was born March 7, 1931 in Huntington, a daughter of the late Ross and Hattie Ann Smith Blake. Also preceding her in death were an infant daughter, Jeannie Hall; a brother, Ray Blake; the father of her children, Dwight S. Hall; and a husband, Charles L. Thomas, who accepted her family lovingly and has been sadly missed. Jean retired from the former Sturm Machine Company as the benefits administrator, where she made life long friends. She was an active member of River Cities Community Church for over 30 years, and was always in God's house learning about his word and serving him, which she fully enjoyed. Jean was a devoted loving mother of two daughters and their husbands, Jan Ellen and Larry Williamson of Huntington, and Susan and Kenny Johnson of Huntington. Her grandchildren, Kendra Johnson and Kolby Johnson (Sara Beth Johnson), all of Huntington, were the joy of her life. Her eyes would light up when in their presence, and they had a special relationship. Their motto was "If mom says no, ask Mom-Mom." Also surviving is a special great grandson, Kolby "Blake" Johnson, II; sister-in-law, Wanda Higdon; two nephews, Kelvin Blake and Keith Blake; special friends, and pastor, Larry Greene and wife Mary Greene; and best friend and "partner in crime", Mary Ball of Florida formerly of Proctorville. The family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers, Sabrina Jewitt and Nona Chapman. Jean's church family supported her through her illness with support, visits, prayers and cards, and Jean would be honored for donations to be sent to River Cities Community Church Growth Fund at 4385 Route 60 East, Huntington, WV 25705. Friends are invited to prepare an endearing story about Jean to share during the time for memory at her funeral service. Friends may call after 12:00 noon until service time Tuesday at Chapman's Mortuary. "For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. I fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:6-7.
