In 1880 the Milton Methodist Episcopal Church was formed, having erected a frame structure. As of 1844 the Methodist Church split over the issue of slavery, forming the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The Milton church was later known as the Morris Memorial Methodist Church or the Northern Methodist Church.

Nineteen fifteen saw the beginning of construction of a brick sanctuary for the Northern Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1939, after nearly 100 years of negotiations by the General Conference, the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Protestant Church, and the Methodist Episcopal Church, South united into the United Methodist Church.

This is a early picture of the church.
