Obituary

CHARLES EDWARD DUNAVANT, 59, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, at his home under the care of his family and Citrus County Hospice. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton with Pastor Paul Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. He was born August 8, 1945, in Charleston, W.Va., a son of the late George W. and Margie Kidwell Cartwright. He moved to Crystal River, Fla., from Milton one year ago. Mr. Dunavant was a human resource director for the State of West Virginia. He was a retired Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Reserve in W.Va., and was a member of the VFW Post 9097, Mason, W.Va.; the American Legion Post 0140, New Haven, W.Va., and the AmVets Post 0008, St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a member of Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church, Ona, W.Va., and attended Red Level Baptist Church, Crystal River, Fla. He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Sharon A. Dunavant; one son, Timothy Wayne Dunavant of Little River, S.C.; two daughters, Theresa McKinney of Milton and Patricia Summers of Nitro; three brothers, Chester Dunavant of Rock Hill, S.C., George W. Dunavant of Geneva, Ohio, and Malcolm Cartwright of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Betty Jane Perrington of Long, S.C.; Lois Ann Medlen of Hernshaw, W.Va., and Linda Cartwright of Boone County, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Brandon McKinney, Amanda McKinney, Jonathan McKinney, Nicole Dunavant, Allison Dunavant, Cody Dunavant and Stephanie Summers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. The family will also be receiving friends at the Cross Lanes Army Reserve Center following the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
