Gordon L. Hanson
(September 26, 1934 - July 25, 2016)



Gordon Lee Hanson, 81, of Barboursville, W.Va. was embraced by his heavenly father Monday, July 25, 2016 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House surrounded by his devoted family. He was born September 24, 1934 in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a graduate of Marshall University, and earned an honorary doctorate degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Mr. Hanson was a Teacher, Principal, Associate Superintendent and School Superintendent in Cabell and Greenbrier Counties. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Ray Hanson, brother Rev. Ray Hanson, and adored step-son Matthew Perkins. Left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of serving others are his wife Belle Hanson, brother Jeff Hanson and wife Linn of Sun City Center, FL, 6 nieces and nephews, children and step-children (which he never differentiated between) Dawn Dooley and husband Joe of Summersville WV, Brad Perkins of Charlottesville, VA, Jeff Hanson of Inwood WV, and Lori Crabtree of Barboursville, WV. He has been blessed with 8 grandchildren (Kristian Barnett, Kaitlin Perkins, Jessica Perkins, Savannah Perkins, Caleb Wynne, Kaitlyn Hanson, Elizabeth Hanson, Ethan Crabtree) and 2 great-grandchildren (Auriana Barnett and Mia Barnett) who idolized their “Poppee”. The family would also like to thank special friends Denny Caldwell, Roger Adkins, and Mike Thompson. A Celebration of Gordon’s life will be conducted at the Steele Memorial United Methodist Church, Barboursville, W.Va. at 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 with Rev. Kevin Lantz and Rev. Ralph Sager officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and a Service of Death and Resurrection will immediately follow. “eWe shall not all sleep, fbut we shall all be changed - 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.” I Corinthians 15:51. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Huntington in Gordon’s memory. Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, Huntington, W.Va. is caring for the family.
