Obituary

John N. Griffith, 86, of Huntington, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at home. He was born September 12, 1931 to Henry Ray and Lola (Martin) Griffith, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Griffith and H.R. Griffith, Jr., as well as his sisters, Eleanor Davis and Corrine Altizer. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, John Wiley Liniger.  John was a 1951 graduate of Huntington High School and attended Marshall University. He went on to serve in the Air Force during the Korean War on the island of Okinawa, Japan. He was retired from INCO of Huntington, where he worked for over 30 years. John was a faithful member of Steele Memorial Methodist Church of Barboursville, WV, where he made numerous lasting friendships and enjoyed, along with his wife, guiding the Steele Singles Class and More for many years. John’s special interests were wide and varied, from raising orchids to researching his ancestry, and shopping EBay for ethnic jewelry, oriental rugs, clocks and old pocket watches (especially ones that didn’t run). He was also an avid reader and Marshall University sports fan. John enjoyed God’s creation, both observing nature around him, as well as spending time with his beloved pets. He truly had a tender heart for all creatures great and small.  He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Phyllis J. Griffith; his two daughters, Donna Liniger (John) and Lisa Bragg (Doug), as well as stepson, Chris Kelley (Rita). Additionally, he is survived by six grandchildren: Justin Liniger, Jenna Hunter, Volodya Bragg, Sergey Bragg, Christin Chapman, and Shawn Kelley, and many great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Forest Memorial Park, Milton, WV at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time at the cemetery mausoleum chapel. Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 East Pea Ridge Road, Barboursville, WV is caring for the family.  To honor John’s life, in lieu of sending flowers, may the family suggest you extend a helping hand to someone in need, rescue a perishing brother or sister, give flowers to a person in need of encouragement or consider adopting a pet from your local animal shelter.
