Billy Ray Dowis, 82, of Huntington, husband for 64 years of Bonita Karleen Dowis, passed away Friday April 7, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Monday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Steve Sullivan. The committal service will be at 11 am Tuesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. He was born June 22, 1934 in Huntington, a son of the late Bernard Arnold and Ola Chaffin Dowis. He was a retired machinist for Steel of WV. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother in law Frank Meadows. Additional survivors include son Russell Ray (Diana Lycans Dowis) Dowis; daughters Penny Dowis Wiles (Randy), Col. (Ret.) Katrina K. Dowis all of Huntington and Mindy Dowis Davis (Bryan) of Kenova; grandchildren Jeremy Wiles, Courtney Dowis Spurlock (Rodney), TSgt. Darren Wiles, Elizabeth Dowis Matthews (Gary), Brady Wiles, Chase Davis, Delaney Davis, Sidney Davis, Savannah Davis and Reece Davis; great grandchildren Elijah Spurlock, Patelin Spurlock, Hazley Matthews, Faith Spurlock, Luke Spurlock and Hendrix Matthews; brother Bob Dowis (Gail) of Huntington; sister Betty Dowis Meadows of Huntington; nieces and nephews Kevin Meadows (Jen), Karie Dowis Spurlock (Tom), Brice Dowis (Amy), Roderick (Sara) Pickens and Lynn (John) Poliks; great nieces and nephews Jack, Will and Nick Meadows, Logan Spurlock, Katie Dowis, Matt, Zack and Grace Pickens and Marissa and Karen Poliks; cousin Frank Dowis (Doraleen); friend Lorraine Troglin and Chuck and Gwen Dowis and Frankie Dowis. and many others including his church family and Pastor Bob Hale and his wife Linda. Bill was an avid West Virginia mountain man and loved to hunt and fish. He was a family man who loved the Lord and always put other people first. His favorite way to spend his time was with all of his grandchildren. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at the Reger Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Community Center, 1610 Florence Ave. Huntington, WV 25701.
