Jarrell Dean “Jerry” Dempsey, of Huntington, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Hook Dempsey. Entombment will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park Garden Building, Huntington. Jerry was born August 16, 1934 in Chapmanville, WV, a son of the late Everett and Nora Dempsey. Jerry was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War, and was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroic and meritorious service during his tour in Korea. For many years Jerry owned and operated Dempsey’s Pest Control and faithfully served many families in the Huntington area through his business. He was also a member of the Masonic Huntington Lodge #53 AF&AM. Jerry loved spending time with his grandchildren, working in his flower garden and fishing with his fishing buddies. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife Rebecca Jane Gibson Dempsey, his second wife Shirley J. Diehl Dempsey, a grandson Michael Dempsey and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Hook (Terri) Dempsey of Maryville, TN, and Darrell (Mechelle) Dempsey of Huntington; grandchildren Damian Dempsey, Brandi Dempsey, Cara Dempsey, Crystal (Robert) Kirby, Stephen Gudger and Levi Dempsey; one great granddaughter Sofia Smith; one brother Elwood Dempsey and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Home.
