Obituary



Helen E. Porter Barr 91 of Cabell County, WV, passed away Friday October 6, 2017, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday October 14, 2017 at the Reger Funeral Chapel, by the Rev. Ralph Houck and Rev. Jerry Shaw. Burial will be in Susie Chapel Cemetery, Huntington. She was born June 22, 1926 in Ona W.V. a daughter of the late Charles and Effie Perry Porter. She was a member of the Church of God Holiness,a graduate of Milton High School, attend Kansas City College and Bible School, were she received a BTH Degree in Theology, and earned BA and MA degrees in education from Marshall University. She taught in Cabell and Mason County public school with 27 years of service, She taught at Bible Community Church in Hobe Sound, Florida and taught English in Taiwan as a missionary. Her hobbies included reading, music” singing, playing the piano and listening to Christian music”and visiting those Christians whom she hoped to encourage and others whom she hoped to lead to Jesus as their Lord. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by her husband John Donta Barr. Her surviving family includes John David Barr (Donna Mae), Lucille Delores Johnson, Warren Earl Barr (Mollie Jane), Carole Ann Barr Campbell, Two special nieces Betty Joan Cummings and Margietta Singer (Lou), grandchildren include John Jay Barr (Cindy), Stephen Earl Barr (Kim), Karon Suzanne Shotts, Terry Michael Barr (Janie), Rhonda Leigh Billups (J.D.), Cyndee Lynn Ortiz, Trina Annette Frederick (Jim), Robin Donte’ Thompson (Jenny), Phillip Todd Roy (Nora) and Jonathan Wade Thompson (Tracey), several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, special friends include Doris Chapman Moore, the Crooks Chapel Church family and good neighbors. A special thank you for the loving care she received at Midland Meadows. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday October 13, 2017 at the Reger Funeral Home.
