Barbara Ann Mele Pruitt, 73, of Huntington, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Born July 22, 1944 in Lancaster/Depew, NY, the fourth and youngest daughter of Joseph J. and Helen V. Mele, and the widow of Lester “Ike” Pruitt. Son James Shaye Pruitt and sisters, Mary Anne Pritchard and Dahlia ‘Bobbie” Welch also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ruth Pruitt of Huntington; sister, Helen T. Johnson of Florida; sister-in-law, Judith Ann Smith of Kenova; and brother-in-law, Michael Welch of Lexington, KY. She is also survived by her four nephews, Joseph Zahn of Illinois, Brent D. Smith and Larry E. Smith, Jr. of Kenova and Brad D. Smith of California. Four nieces, Susan McQuery and Diana Pritchard of Lexington, KY; Katie Propes and Victoria Pfender of Florida and several great nephews and nieces. Barbara graduated from Holy Family High School in Ashland, KY and attended University of Kentucky and Marshall University. She was employed for over 55 years by Ashland Inc. in the Treasury/Finance Department and the Records Department. She was active Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Huntington, WV. She wasan Eucharistic Minister for Sunday Masses, President of the St. Ann’s Ladies Circle and Treasurer of the Church Guild. She was a volunteer bookkeeper, and maintained all the church financial records and reports to the finance committee and the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston each month. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am Saturday by Fr. Chuck McGinnis at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Huntington. Rite of Committal will follow a luncheon at the Church and will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Ashland, KY. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 pm on Friday at the Reger Funeral Home
