Obituary

Amy Elizabeth Watkins, 48, of Huntington, WV passed away on Tuesday February 13, 2018 at her residence. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Fr. Dean Borgmeyer. Rite of Committal will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Amy was born September 11, 1969 in Huntington, WV, the daughter of William David and Sandra Elizabeth Brislin Watkins of Huntington. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a 1987 graduate of St. Joseph High School. In 1991 Amy graduated from the Marshall University School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Music was important to her since she was a child. A skilled singer and guitarist, Amy was actively involved in the music ministry through church. She also played in a band through college and continued to perform when she lived in Nashville, TN. In 1998 she released her first solo album, "I Know a Good Thing". Among Amy's happiest memories were those of sharing her music with the residents of the City Mission in Huntington and the patients she cared for in Nashville. She also had a great love of animals, especially strays. She loved her cats and dogs like they were her children and enjoyed volunteering with Little Victories Animal Rescue. Amy had a great love of family as well, and was happy to return home to West Virginia after spending twenty years in Tennessee. Her kindness and generous spirit touched so many in her lifetime. In addition to her parents, survivors include three sisters and a brother-in-law: Lynn Haynes and her husband Christopher, Becky Bare, and Julie Watkins. Amy also leaves behind a niece, Rachel Bare, and her special pups Rocky and Sasha. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Friday at the Reger Funeral Home where the Christian Wake will be at 8:00 pm.
