Melvin Curtis Barcus
(February 9, 1930 - April 5, 2014)



Melvin Curtis Barcus, 84, of Milton, West Virginia passed away on April 5, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer while his family was by his side. Melvin was born on February 9, 1930 in Huntington, WV, to Leslie and Myrtle Mae Stanley Barcus. He was preceded in death by his siblings Aaron Barcus, Morton Barcus, Mason Barcus, Marvin Barcus, Louetta Banks, Mary Sizemore, Christine Ronk, and Louise Rose. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Bell Barcus, who was by his side and cared for him throughout his battle. Melvin has three daughters Becky (Steve) Simmons of Barboursville, WV, Mona (Jim) Ferguson of Denham Springs, LA, and Renee (Brent) Fulks of Ona, WV. Additionally, his sister Ada Lynn Douglas of Ironton, OH, and nine grandchildren, Justin Ferguson, Heidi Ferguson Hand, Nicholas Ferguson, Tony Simmons, Curt Simmons, Leslie Simmons Midkiff, Christopher Simmons, Emily Fulks and Claire Fulks. Seven great-grandchildren, Brayden Hand, Ethan Hand, Hallie Hand, Adley Hand, Cameron Simmons, Trey Simmons, and Sawyer Ferguson. Melvin retired from Connors Steel. He loves his family, friends and his pets. His grandsons and friend, Bernard Clary will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Gerrit Kimmey and his staff at HIMG, and our in-home care givers Corey Gast, Amy Flanigan, Teresa Leonard and staff at Hospice of Huntington. Friends may call on the family for visitation at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel in Barboursville. Funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday immediately following visitation by Pastor Winford Curry. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.
