Gregory Allen Gilkerson
(August 24, 1954 - April 21, 2015)



GREGORY ALLEN GILKERSON, 60, of Barboursville, WV, suddenly passed from this life on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. He was born on August 24, 1954 in Cabell County, WV. He was preceded in death by his father, John Lee Gilkerson III, his mother Adell Davis Gilkerson Adkins and his step-father, Luther Adkins, and infant brother and sister, Ronald Leon and Betty Mae. Greg graduated from Wayne High School in 1972. He proudly served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, and retired from the 130th Tactical Airlift Group West Virginia Air National Guard as a SSGT during which time he was called to active duty for Operation Desert Storm. He worked for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in different positions all in the Operations Division, the last being at Dewey Lake, when he retired with nearly 32 years of service. He had previously worked at ACF Industries for 7 years. Greg leaves to mourn and cope with his passing, the love of his life, Roberta Gilkerson (Adkins); his son Gregory Allen Gilkerson, Jr. and wife Amanda; his daughter Jennifer Gilkerson Sutphin and husband Jody; granddaughters Dedra Gilkerson and Brianna Sutphin; grandson Gavin Gregory Gilkerson; and great granddaughter, Jade Gilkerson; sister and brother in law Melva and Rard Adkins; brothers and sisters in law John Lee and Sandra Gilkerson; and Jesse Dale and Sandra Adkins, nieces and nephews, cousins, and host of friends.. He loved all of his family and his children and grandbabies were the light of his life. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville by Rev. John Gilkerson and Rev. Steve Nida. Burial will be in Luther Adkins Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
