Earl E. Carpenter, 88, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away on July 12, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. He was born in Milton, W.Va., on February 29, 1928, a leap-year birth. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen F. Carpenter; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael H. and Jo Ann Carpenter of Gahanna, Ohio, and daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Sid Torlone of Huntington, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Allison (Nabeel), Rachel (Peter), Michael, Jr. (Laura), Travis (Ginny), and Tyler (Beth); and 3 great-grandchildren. Earl worked for 47 years as a glass blower and finisher at Blenko Glass, and did independent glass designs that were featured in art exhibits throughout the world. He was a decorated Army veteran, honorably serving his country in the Korean War as a tank commander. During his term of active service from 1950-52, he rose in rank to Sergeant and received the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars. He was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, W.Va., with Dr. David Lemming officiating. Entombment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Barboursville. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the funeral home, and from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 immediately preceding the service. Earl was the hardest-working, kindest, and most gentle soul, and always had a warm smile for everyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
