Obituary

Zula Beatrice Ellis
(July 20 1925 - August 27, 2017)



Zula Beatrice Ellis, 92, passed peacefully on August 27, 2017, at Cabell Health Care Center, Culloden, WV. Zula was born July 20, 1925, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Sanders and Eria Adkins. In addition she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Don Ellis, a daughter-in-law, Melanie Ellis; sisters, Anna Lambert, Mary Eplin, and Stella Moore; brothers, Willie, Clyde, Marvil, and Howard Adkins. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Trina and Don Smith of Barboursville; special grandson, Joshua Smith of Huntington; son Larry Ellis of Huntington; and several special nieces and nephews. After high school, Zula worked at Island Creek Coal Company in Logan, WV, before they moved to Huntington, WV, in 1963. Zula loved her family and was a wonderful homemaker and fabulous cook. She loved working crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy that was part of her evening relaxation. Zula was also a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Cabell Health Care and special thanks to the angels of mercy on the Whistle Lane unit who went above and beyond in Mom’s care. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville with Dr. David Lemming officiating. The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
