Obituary

Teddie Lynn Metzger, 75, died October 18 at her home in Jacksonville, FL.  She was born in Huntington, January 18, 1932,  daughter of Samuel Victor Metzger and Ella Gill.  Her father’s family was among the early settlers of Kentucky. Likewise her mother’s family settled in Mason County, WV, in 1805.  She was the valedictorian of the HEHS Class of 1949 and attended Marshall University briefly. She worked untiringly at Boy Scout camps and projects with her former husband, Steven Kent Moore, professional scouter. She was founder and leader of “Compassionate Friends” composed of adults who had lost children by death.  She was a licensed interior decorator and was a former employee of her church, Southside United Methodist, in Jacksonville but attended Twentieth St. Baptist Church here in childhood. Teddie was reared by her grandmothers, Emma Gill and Belle Filson Hazelrigg of Salyersville, KY, and aunts, Stacy Gill and Mae Gill Reffeitt.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Stephanie Ann and Amy Lynn Moore and her mother-in-law, Mae Wilson Moore of Huntington, all three of whom died in an airplane crash in 1967.  Survivors include daughters and grandchildren: Jo Ella Moore and daughter Stacy Adelle; Lisa Beth Lovelace (J. Todd) and sons Robert Todd and Samuel Kent; and Jane Leslie Moore and daughter Leslie Marie, all of Florida.   Also surviving are Kenneth R. Reffeitt of Huntington, cousin reared like her brother; numerous cousins including Allison Monroe (Craig) of NJ; and special friends of this area: Betty Ann Corn (Gary), Dr. G. B. Corn, Johnny Woods, Jo Ann Shepherd of Romney, and Russell Graybeal.  Memorial services will be held later in Florida and interment of ashes will be at Morgantown, WV near her daughters.
