Obituary
Teddie Lynn
Metzger, 75, died October 18 at her home in
Jacksonville,
FL. She was born in
Huntington, January 18, 1932, daughter of Samuel Victor Metzger and Ella
Gill. Her father’s family was among the early settlers of
Kentucky. Likewise her mother’s
family settled in Mason County, WV, in 1805. She was the valedictorian of
the HEHS Class of 1949 and attended
Marshall
University briefly. She
worked untiringly at Boy Scout camps and projects with her former husband,
Steven Kent Moore, professional scouter. She was founder and leader of
“Compassionate Friends” composed of adults who had lost children by death.
She was a licensed interior decorator and was a former employee of her
church, Southside United Methodist, in
Jacksonville but attended
Twentieth St. Baptist Church here in childhood. Teddie was reared by her
grandmothers, Emma Gill and Belle Filson Hazelrigg of
Salyersville,
KY, and aunts, Stacy Gill and
Mae Gill Reffeitt. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Stephanie
Ann and Amy Lynn Moore and her mother-in-law, Mae Wilson Moore of
Huntington, all three of whom
died in an airplane crash in 1967. Survivors include daughters and
grandchildren: Jo Ella Moore and daughter Stacy Adelle; Lisa Beth Lovelace
(J. Todd) and sons Robert Todd and Samuel Kent; and Jane Leslie Moore and
daughter Leslie Marie, all of
Florida. Also surviving are
Kenneth R. Reffeitt of Huntington, cousin reared like her brother; numerous
cousins including Allison Monroe (Craig) of NJ; and special friends of this
area: Betty Ann Corn (Gary), Dr. G. B. Corn, Johnny Woods, Jo Ann Shepherd
of Romney, and Russell Graybeal. Memorial services will be held later in
Florida and interment of ashes will be at
Morgantown,
WV near her daughters.
