Philip Benson Pitkin, 76 of
Huntington,
WV passed away on Saturday July 5, 2008 at
Cabell-Huntington
Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at
Johnson
Memorial
United
Methodist
Church with Dr. Emerson
Wood and Rev. Jack Lipphardt officiating. Burial will be in
Martinsville, IN. He was born
June 16, 1932 in
Martinsville, a son of the late
Dr. Edward Meyer Pitkin and Mary Elizabeth VanArsdel Pitkin. In addition to
his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Meyer Pitkin,
Jr., William VanArsdel Pitkin and Dr. Dwight Livingston Pitkin. He graduated
from
Culver
Military
Academy in 1950; received a Degree
in Economics from
Princeton
University in 1954; graduated from
Indiana
University with a MBA
in Finance in 1958 and was elected to the Business Honorary –Beta Gamma
Sigma. He was a graduate teaching assistant at
Indiana
University, he also taught banking
courses at
Indiana University,
Ohio State University and
Marshall
University. Mr. Pitkin
was employed by Irwin Union Bank & Trust Company, Columbus, IN, from
1958–1981 where he was Senior Vice President Commercial Services, Operations
and Branches, Vice President of Irwin Corporation and President of Irwin
Union Credit Insurance Corporation; from 1981 -1993 he was the Executive
Vice President and Bank Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank
of Ceredo and served as a consultant from 1993-1994 at United National Bank.

Columbus, IN., he was a former member of
Harrison
Lake Country Club,
Asbury
United
Methodist
Church, where he served
as Chairman of the Building Committee, Chairman of Board of Trustees,
Chairman of the Finance Committee and Chairman of the Administrative Board.
He was active in the Chamber of Commerce, served on the board at
United Way, PTO president
of
Parkside Elementary School,
Chairman of United Council of Churches and served as Treasurer and Director
of the Jaycees. In Huntington, he was a member of Johnson Memorial United
Methodist Church where he served as past chairman of the Finance Committee;
he was a former Chairman, President and Director of the Boys & Girls Club;
he was a former member of Guyan Golf & Country Club, he served as a team
captain and former Chairman of Citizens Review Committee with over 10 years
of service for the United Way. He was a Director for the Coalition for
Substance Abuse, United Huntington Industries and Huntington Regional
Chamber of Commerce. He served in the United States Army, Active and
Reserves, attaining the rank of Captain. He is survived by his wife of 53
years, Carol Ann Austin Pitkin; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Elizabeth
Pitkin Parker and A. Mark Parker of Franklin, TN; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Dr. David Dwight Pitkin and Dr. Shalene L. Pitkin of
Powell, OH and Douglas Alan Pitkin and Anna B. Pitkin of Huntington and
eight grandchildren Colton Parker, Paxton Parker, Bridget Pitkin, Ryan
Pitkin, Tanner Pitkin, Taylor Pitkin, Emily Pitkin and William Pitkin. In
lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to Johnson
