Juanita Belle “Needie” Weeks, 82 of
Huntington, WV, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend lost her
courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at St.
Mary’s
Medical
Center.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at
Cross
Roads
United
Methodist
Church with Rev. David
Cartwright officiating. Entombment will follow in
Woodmere
Memorial Park.
She was born November 8, 1927 in
Cabell County,
WV a daughter of the late
Elba and Mildred Blankenship. In addition
to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Weeks. She
was a 1945 graduate of
Huntington
High School, attended
Bowling Green
College (now
Western
Kentucky
University) where she
met the love of her life Robert Weeks. They were married for 58 years before
his death. Juanita worked as secretary for her husband as he set up his
accounting practice. She was a member of
9th Avenue UMC
until its closing and then joined
Cross
Roads
United
Methodist
Church where she
faithfully attended the early service, manned phones on Tuesday mornings and
was a member of the Senior’s group. She was involved in Camp Fire Girls,
Beta Sigma Phi, United Methodist Women and served as treasurer of most clubs
she was in. The love of both Bob and Needie’s hearts was the UM Church Camp
Asbury Woods, so in lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be
made to the camp at 1776 Woodward Terrace, Huntington, WV 25705 in their
memories. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Lynn and
Jeffrey A. Porter of
Huntington; two grandchildren, Deidre of
Princeton, NJ and Jeffrey Allen II of
Columbus,
OH and his fiancée Susan
Harvey; two special sisters-in-law, Mae and Margaret Weeks and a host of
nieces, nephews and their families. The family would like to thank all the
wonderful friends who came to their aid: Cindy Persinger, Bob and Mary Lou
Swann, Hubert and Marsha Harvey, Pete and Ava Peters, Kathy Bartram, Sue
Nester, Kathy Wakefield and our wonderful church families at both Cross
Roads UMC and 1st UMC Huntington, also, Susan Hage and the staff
at El Haijj Salon for their love and support. The family would like to
express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Gerrit Kimmey and his staff for their
excellent care. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday at
Beard Mortuary.
