Charles Edward Dils, husband of Gloria J. Dils, passed away Friday night, Sept. 17, 2010 in the University of Tennessee Cardio Vascular Intensive Care Unit, Knoxville, Tennessee. Charles and Gloria moved to Bybee, TN, five years ago from Little Egg Harbour, New Jersey. He was born October 18, 1935 in Huntington, WV, to the late Harry V. Dils and Christine Dils Baldwin. Charles was the stepson of Clyde A. Baldwin. He graduated with the 1953 class of Huntington East High School and attended the University of Cincinatti. He joined the US Army Air Force in January 1954 and was stationed for three years at Hickam Air Force Base, Oahu, Hawaii, where he played baseball for the Hickam Base Team. He was an avid bowler. A member of the Elks Lodge #313 and transferred his membership to Vineland, New Jersey. After he retired from the Air Force in 1992, he served as a Security Guard for “The Claridge” and Brinks of New York. Charles was predeceased by two sisters, Thelma Baldwin Marks and Pauline Baldwin Hill, a brother, James William Dils and a brother-in-law, Rev. Herbert W. Hill. He is survived by three children, Mark Edward Dils of Portland, Maine; Martha Jane (Dennis) Enyart of Pittsburgh, PA and Carol Elaine Dils Frye of Little Egg Harbour, New Jersey. Their mother, Barbara Dils Smith died in 2008. Two stepchildren, Laurie D. Walsh of Millville, N.J. and granddaughter, Alexis and Christopher P. (Tracey) Walsh of Vineland, N.J.; granddaughter, Sheri Sedgwick (Michael, II) Roman and great grandson Michael E. Roman, III; grandchildren, Jessica Lynne Frye, Corrine Renee Frye and Charles Anthony Frye of Little Egg Harbour, N.J; his mother-in-law, Mary R. Holt of Leigh Acres, Florida; a brother-in-law, Robert C. Marks of Mechanicsburg, PA; a sister, Helen Dils Stanley of Huntington and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Charles was a very friendly and out-going person. His early childhood friends were Dwayne Lemaster, Chauncey Damron and Rex and Anne Stewart. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at the Ridgelawn Memorial Park Mausoleum at 2:00 PM with Rev. Rex Bartholamew officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends after 1:00 PM at the Mausoleum. Flowers will be appreciated; those who wish may make memorial contributions to the charity of ones choice.
