Obituary

DIXIE OLEIDA NICELY has completed her journey and is at Home with Our LORD. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed all the experiences she was blessed to have. Born July 4, 1940 to Raymond “Sadie” and Dorothy Mae Bills, she was their only child and the “apple of their eye.” This extended from parents to all of her aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul H. Nicely. She was an active member of the Sybene Missionary Baptist Church in Sybene, Ohio. Dixie was a soloist and sang in the choir until just recently when her health would no longer allow her to do so. “She was beloved by all who knew her,” as recently spoke by one of her closest friends, Fern Cielec of Proctorville, Ohio. One of Dixie’s fond memories was that of serving as an EKG Technician at the Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven, Florida. Dixie is survived by her three children, daughter Pam Riffe, son Jeff Nicely, and daughter Tammy White. Pam’s family includes her husband, Geoff and their children, Alysson and Kyle. Jeff and his wife, Sherri, have three children, Dustin and wife Lindsey, Sarah and Parker; a granddaughter, Mindy, and grandson, Wesley. Tammy and her son Bobby complete the immediate family. Dixie is also survived by her aunt, Opal Blake, who she loved very much and sister-in-law Mary McKee as well as a host of friends including Mike Farrell, Charlie Ball, Richard and Fern Cielec, Peggy Webb, Les and Denice Spears, Valerie Scheidler, Jeaneen Pohlman, Ida Bowen, and Patricia Hackney. Visitation will be at Beard Mortuary on Tuesday, January 7th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Beard Mortuary. Pastor Doris Webb, Sybene Missionary Baptist Church and Dr. Ronnie Mayes, Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church will be reflecting and offering solace respecting Dixie’s indomitable will, spirit, and societal contributions. Dixie will be laid to rest beside her husband in Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a donation be made to the Marshall University Forensic Science Center in memory of Paul H. and Dixie O. Nicely Scholarship. The check may be sent to the Marshall University Foundation, 519 John Marshall Drive, Huntington, West Virginia. 25703.
