Obituary
Barbara Chapman Harmon
(October 12, 1947 ~ July 2, 2017)
Barbara Chapman Harmon, after a brief
but painful illness, passed from this short life on earth to her forever
life in Heaven to be with the God she loved so much. Barbara was a patient
at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House where she received loving care until her
passing on Sunday, July 2, 2017. Barbara was born on October 12, 1947 to the
late Johnny and Avanell Chapman; she was also preceded in death by her older
brother Richie who adored having a little sister. Barbara is survived by the
love of her life, Dewey, to whom she was married for 52 years. She is also
survived by her two sons whom she spoiled in every way but taught them the
values of life they live by today, Johnny (Pam) and Chris and her six
grandchildren, whom she delighted in also spoiling with her giving nature,
Jacob, Ryan, Andrew, Stella and twins, Jack and Lila. All who knew Barbara
felt she was an angel placed on this earth by God to teach all of us how to
be better persons. If you were sick Barbara was there to comfort you, if you
were hungry Barbara was there with food, if you were sad Barbara was there
to pray for you. Barbara worked as a merchandiser for American Greetings for
many years and during her last days when she was so ill; she went to her job
at Target to be sure that everything was in order before she had to resign.
Barbara lived her life with dignity and grace and loved her church family
and was a founding member of Central Freewill Baptist Church for 44 years.
If the church was open Barbara was there doing whatever needed to be done.
She served the church as Treasurer for 24 years, church clerk/secretary for
20 years, Vice President of Women Active for Christ for 25 years, Nursery
Director for 30 years, Deacons wife, and was involved with anything going on
in the church. Pallbearers will be, Jim Hutchison, Mike Copley, Robbie
Payton, Gary Workman, G.B. Berry, David Barnett and Nathan Anderson. The
family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm
at Beard Mortuary. Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at
Central Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Williams officiating, whom
she loved to listen to because his messages brought her such comfort. Burial
will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
