Margaret Jean Harless
(June 12, 1931 - May 21, 2012)



Margaret Jean Booth Harless, 80, of Huntington, WV, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 21, 2012, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, May 25, 2012, at Chapman’s Mortuary, with Pastor Lee Dean officiating. Entombment will follow in the White Chapel Mausoleum, Barboursville. Jean was born June 12, 1931, a daughter of the late Homer and Oreta Atkins Booth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Harless in1972; three brothers, Raymond, Jack and Homer Lee Booth; a niece, Michelle Cassis; and two step-sons, Robert Larry Harless and Rickey Carter. Jean graduated from Huntington East High School in 1949, and then went on to Comptometer School. Jean married Bill on May 15, 1954. She held several office positions over the next several years including, B.F. Goodrich, C&O Railroad, Fisher Body, and Superior Cadillac. Then she retired from Valley Center for Vision as a bookkeeper, receptionist, assistant for Dr. Harold Rose, O.D., with 19 years of service in 2001. She was a longtime member of Highlawn Baptist Church, where she served on the deaconess board, and sang in the choir. She especially loved participating in the Easter pageants. She was also a former longtime member of First Guyandotte Baptist Church where she also sang in the choir and sang solos. Some of the things that Jean loved were visiting with family and friends, shopping, going out to dinner, listening to gospel music and bowling. She was a very gentle, loving, understanding, and devoted Mom, Mother-in-law, and Granmomma, who will be dearly missed. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Lynn Blake and her husband Jim; two granddaughters, Christa Lynn Blake and Caren Ann Blake all of Huntington; one sister, Rachel Ann Cassis of Dublin, Ohio; two step-daughters, Ruth Ann and Odell Nicely of Branchland, WV, and Gloria Jean and Roland Castle of Frederick, MD, and their families; two sisters-in-law, Donna Daniels of Dacula, GA, and Locie Adkins of Branchland, WV; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Hospice of Huntington, especially Ginger Nichols, Linda Hood, Sharon McCloud, Christa Maddox, all of the staff at Hospice House and her hospice volunteer, Jean Reed, for all their loving care. Also a special thanks to Cathy Workman and Bill Miles of Gentiva Home Health Care.
