Edgar Adkins
(October 9, 1937 - November 30, 2012)
James “Jim” Edgar Adkins, 75, of Proctorville,
Ohio, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012, in the Emogene Dolin Jones
Hospice House. Surrounded by his family and loved ones, Jim ended his long
and courageous battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord. He was born
October 9, 1937, in Branchland, WV, to the late Edgar and Opal Mead Adkins.
He was also preceded in death by a younger brother, Steven Wayne; mother
–in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Earl Finley; three brothers-in-law,
Bobby Triplett, Bob Eplion and Johnny Finley. A graduate of Barboursville
High School, Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and the Navy Seabee’s
where he served his country honorably for over 25 years. In addition to his
military service, he retired from Inco Alloys after more than 32 years of
faithful employment. He was a member and Chaplain of the U.S. Navy Seabee
Veterans of America, Island X-1 Huntington. He enjoyed watching sports,
woodworking, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for
his sense of humor, honesty, integrity, love of the military, and strong
faith in the Lord. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Jeannie
of more than 40 years; a son Jimmy and his wife Bethany; and two beautiful
granddaughters, Charlee Jean and Emelia Jaymes. Jim was most excited about
the upcoming arrival of his first grandson, Andrew “Drew” Stephen this
winter. Additionally he is survived by two sisters, Geraldine (Ernest)
Chafin, Nada Triplett; three brothers, Gale (Mary) Adkins, Keith (Joy)
Adkins, Gary (Roma) Adkins; a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Eplion; 11 nieces and
nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews, and four great-great nieces and
nephews. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, December 2, 2012,
from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington. Funeral services
will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, December 3, 2012, with Mitch Webb
officiating. Graveside services conducted by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16
will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones
Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702.
