William Mears
David William Mears, 77, of Huntington, WV, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, with Dr. Darrell Huffman officiating. Burial will be in the Rome-Proctorville Cemetery, Proctorville, OH. David was born August 10, 1935 in Dover, OH, a son of the late Floyd James and Florence Affolter Mears. A brother, Richard Mears, also preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. He was the owner and broker of Mears Realty for over 25 years. Prior to that, he was involved in wholesale food sales with F.J. Mears Brokerage Company for about 20 years. David was a member of New Life Church, where he was an elder for 25 years. He was a member of the Huntington Board of Realtors, and he served in many leadership roles on the state and local real estate boards. He was a lifetime member of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, having served as President of the Huntington Chapter for several years. David was known as a man of honesty and integrity in business. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his sweet, kind, and gentle spirit; his strong faith in God; and his warm and loving smile. He was a true gentleman with a love for God, his family, his friends, and his country. Survivors include: his faithful wife of 54 years, Kay Welker Mears; a daughter Julie (Dr. Thomas) Klein of Proctorville, OH; a son Dr. James (Sherri) Mears of Scott Depot, WV; two very special granddaughters, Sara Mears and Elizabeth Klein; two sisters Ruth Ann (R. James) Murphy and Linda (Patrick) Petrigan; a sister-in-law, Sue Mears; and a brother-in-law, Lynn Welker. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 30, 2012, at Chapman’s Mortuary.
