Obituary
Ora Mae
White
(October 28, 1922 - November 6, 2012)
On the afternoon of November 6, 2012 Ora Mae
Saunders White also known as "Jimmie", of Proctorville, OH,
formerly of Huntington, was called away to her heavenly home after a short
illness. She was born October 28, 1922, the second of twelve children, to
the late Stephen and Fern Davis Saunders. Jimmie worked hard most of her
life; as a young teen she baby sat and did laundry (the old fashion way) for
others and then often spent the money she had earned on her younger brothers
and sisters or helping her Mom and Dad. She retired from St. Mary's Hospital
in the Spring of 1990 where she had worked in the kitchen for 28 years.
After retirement she enjoyed working in her yard planting flowers and mowing
the lawn. She had the best looking yard in the neighborhood until she cut
off some fingers in the lawn mower—that did slow her down a little. She gave
her life to the Lord in the early 1970's and was a member of the Rock of
Ages Church; in her later years she attended Abundant Life Baptist Church
and First Baptist Church of Proctorville. Sometimes she had a sharp tongue
and was opinionated, but I won't mention that. I will mention, she was
always willing to lend a helping hand, was a great cook, and she loved her
family and would do anything to help them. She is survived by two sisters,
Anna Sellards of Huntington, and Mary Thompson of Concord, NC; and two
brothers and their wives, William and Joyce Saunders of South Elgin, IL, and
Steve and Linda Saunders of Simpsonville, SC. Also surviving are two
sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Saunders and Ruth Saunders and many nephews and
nieces who loved "Aunt Jimmie." In addition to her parents she was preceded
in death by her husband Walter White, an infant son Frankie, four sisters,
Viola Burcham, Margaret Callicoat, Betty DeCook, Carolyn Craft, and three
brothers, Kenneth Saunders, Robert Saunders and Gary Joe Saunders her
special brother who looked after her for 20 years before his home going in
August 2012. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012, at
Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington. Services will be 12 p.m. Friday, November 9,
2012, at Chapman's Mortuary with her friend, Pastor Dale Barnett
officiating. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens,
Barboursville. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
