Obituary


Karl Albert Brooks, 84, of Huntington, WV, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016, in CAMC Teays Valley. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Friday, July 15, 2016, at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Tim Yates officiating. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, with Veterans Honor Guard Post #16 conducting military graveside rites and Barboursville Minerva Lodge #13 AF and AM conducting masonic rites. He was born October 3, 1931 in McIntosh, SD a son of the late Fred and Cassie Gerber Brooks. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ann W. Brooks; his sister, Anna Stevens and five brothers, Lee, Fritz, Jim, John, and Danny Brooks. Karl was a retired telephone repairman, installer and foreman for the former C and P and AT and T Telephone Companies and after retiring he was co-owner of American Telephone Service. Karl was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Pea Ridge Baptist Church and attended Lewis Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member of Barboursville Chapter #95 OES, where he was Past Patron and Grand Representative to Kentucky in West Virginia and was currently a member of Guyandotte Chapter #89 OES and a member of Barboursville Minerva Lodge #13 AF and AM. Survivors include: two daughters, Robbyn Thompson of Huntington and her boyfriend, Peter Burgeson, and Carol Dixon and her husband, Steven of Marietta, OH; a brother, Paul Brooks of Spanaway, WA; a brother-in-law, Charles Watts and his wife, Faye and their family; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. We will see you and mom together again! The family would like to thank Lewis Memorial Baptist Church hospital visitation team for their constant prayers and visits. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Friday, at Chapman's Mortuary, where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 12:45 pm by Guyandotte Chapter #89 OES.
