Obituary
George S. Roinestad, 96, of Huntington, WV, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1920 in Pipestone, MN a son of the late Abraham and Amelia Samuelson Roinestad. He was a retired accountant with ELMAC Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Battle of the Bulge and the Bridge at Remagen. He was a soldier, a patriot, a gentleman and a credit to those who proudly served their country. In 1949, he fell in love with Huntington while driving down Third Avenue. After a short courtship, he married the love of his life, Verla L. Sayler Roinestad. They were married nearly 50 years when she passed away in 1999. He was proud to have been a "Huntington Hometown Hero". He was a member and deacon at Pea Ridge Baptist Church; was a member of Ohio Valley Accountant Association; was a Kentucky Colonel; was Past Patron of Marcum Chapter #61 OES; and was a member of Crescent Lodge #32; 32nd degree Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shrine. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Salmer and Arthur Roinestad. Survivors include: his church family at Pea Ridge Baptist Church; and close friends, Emerson and Jean Davis, Lora and Tom Dillon, and Roger and Carol Adams. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 pm Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Pea Ridge Baptist Church, Huntington, with Pastor Dan Londeree officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Veterans Honor Guard Post 16. Burial will be 10:00 am Monday in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, OH. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday at Pea Ridge Baptist Church.
