Vernard Hughes, 92 of Melrose FL., passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at his residence. He was born March 19, 1928 in Glenwood, WV, a son of the late Brady and Sarah Bowman Hughes. 6 siblings also preceded him in death. He retired from the US Navy as a Sr. Chief Petty Officer having served during WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. Survivors include 5 children; Donna Taylor of Ona, WV, Vernard Lee and Anita Hughes of Angola, Ind, Veria Hicks of Beckley, WV, Lawrence and Brenda Hughes of TN, Charles and Donna Hughes of Barboursville, WV; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted 1:00 pm Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the KY. Veterans Cemetery, NE, Grayson KY. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am until noon Thursday at the funeral home. Chapman's Mortuary is assisting the family.
