Rufus Garrett, Sr.
(May 15, 1941 - February 21, 2015)



Rufus Garrett Sr., age 73, of Huntington, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at his residence.  Born May 15, 1941 in Alpine, Alabama, he was the son of the late John S. and Irene (Keith) Garrett.  Rufus was a member of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Huntington and enjoyed driving the bus for local churches in Proctorville, OH, during special events for children. He retired from Wilcox & Gets in Huntington where he worked as a roofer. Rufus loved fishing, gardening, and always had jokes to tell his friends and family. He never met a stranger, and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.  He is survived by his six children, Rufus (Hope) Garrett Jr., of Huntington; Annette Mabry of GA, James Garrett of Huntington, Mike Garrett of Huntington, Shawn Garrett of Huntington, and Jacqueline (Dwight) Garrett Goehagen of OH; his seven siblings, Lue Alice Garrett of Huntington, Glendon Garrett of Huntington, Murry Garrett of Huntington, Helen Pankey of OH, Juliette Garrett of AL, Gwellin Garrett of AL, and Irene Garrett of AL; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; his second wife, Dottie Snodgrass; his two cousins, Wendall Keith of Huntington and Joe Keith of OH, and his two uncles, M.C. Keith of Huntington and W.T. Garrett, also of Huntington.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Sarah Ann Garrett; his siblings, "Jelly" Garrett, William Garrett, and Champion Garrett.  Rufus' family will welcome friends for a visitation at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 27, 2015, one hour prior to the funeral ceremony at 1:00 P.M. at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Huntington, with Rev. Roy Terry, officiating.
