Bessie Lee McClain
(July 3, 1920 - February 25, 2015)

Bessie Lee Herbert McClain, 94, of East Cleveland, OH, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Gardens of McGregor where she had resided since March of 2005. She was born, reared, and educated at Douglass High School, class of 1937, in Huntington. Many “Huntingtonians” interacted with her because she was employed in sales and food preparation at Atlantic Seafood for many years. She also managed the Seafood Mart which was owned and operated by First Baptist Church of Huntington. She later worked for many years at Victor’s Delicatessen and retired from Barnett Child Care as a Foster grandparent for the state of West Virginia. Bessie began her Christian life at Young’s Chapel AME Church and then joined her family at First Baptist Church of Huntington. She served as a Deaconess and trustee of the church. She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Teresa McClain Green of Eastlake, OH; one daughter –in-law, Kathleen D. McClain of Huntington; step-son, Eric Fagan (Michelle) of Akron, OH ;two granddaughters, Tracy Jennings Hill and Katrina McClain Tarry (Jamahl) , both of Atlanta, GA; seven great-granddaughters, Tierra, Torryn, Sara, Emily, Janari, Taylor, and Allon; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of extended family and caring, competent caregivers. She was preceded in death by two sons, William Charles McClain Jr. and Kevin Herbert McClain (Kathy). The viewing will take place at First Baptist Church, 801 6th Avenue, Huntington, on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 12:00 Noon with the funeral service following at 1:00 P.M.
