BERTHA PATTON LYONS
(January 22, 1928 - February 25, 2010)



BERTHA PATTON LYONS, 82, of Huntington, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010, at Ridgelawn Memorial Park Abbey of Devotion Chapel, Huntington with Rev. James Reiter officiating. Entombment will follow the service. She was born January 22, 1928, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Harry Otis and Helen Schafer Sheets. She was also preceded in death by husbands Joe Newman Patton, Esquire in 1974, and retired Master Chief Elza "Zeke" Lyons in 1990. Bertha was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, lovingly known as "GaGa" to her granddaughter Elizabeth. Survivors include two daughters, Amy Anne Patton-Reiter and her husband Jim of Huntington and JoLee Fields and her husband Bob of Griffin, GA; a son, Patrick Stuart Patton and his wife Neighm of Patuxent River, MD; step-daughter Julia Lyons Ryle and her husband Bruce of Tomball, TX; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Capron and her husband Jeff of Huntington, Jaime Fields of Griffin, GA, and Tod Fields and his wife Brandy of Griffen, GA; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Elizabeth Capron of Huntington and Maggie Elizabeth Fields of Griffen, GA. She will be missed by her friend Myrtie Hatcher Perdue, whom she loved as a sister, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Bertha was a member of Central Christian Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and a past member of Huntington Woman's Club, the Junior League and of the American Bar Auxiliary. She was past mayor of Pea Ridge and was in the first group of majorettes at Huntington East High School. She was an avid dog-lover and loved her pets as family. Her canine family brought her much comfort and joy throughout her life. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House for their loving care and unending kindness to Bertha and our family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her memory to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Road, Huntington, WV 25702, or to Little Victories Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 247, Barboursville, WV 25504. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Ridgelawn Abbey of Devotion Chapel, Huntington.
