CHARLES MORRIS HATCHER, JR.
CHARLES MORRIS HATCHER, JR., 65, of Huntington, WV, passed away at Cabell Huntington Hospital on Friday, January 27, 2012 after battling cancer. Charlie was born on December 17, 1946 in Baltimore, MD to the late Charles M. and Mary Ellis Hatcher. He was a graduate of Huntington East High School, Marshall University, and West Virginia University College of Law. In 1974, Charlie headed the first West Virginia Legal Services office (now Legal Aid of West Virginia) in Huntington. He proudly served as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Cabell County for approximately 20 years, and opened his own legal practice in 1978. His son Chad Hatcher joined Hatcher Law Office in 1995, and they practiced together up until Charlie’s passing. Charlie will be remembered for his advocacy on behalf of people in need. He is survived by his wife, Sue Hatcher; their two children, Molly Hatcher (Casey Shelton), and Chad Hatcher; his granddaughter, Amelia Lucy Dew Hatcher; two brothers, Steve Hatcher (Ellen Hatcher) and Dave Hatcher (Melanie Hatcher); one sister, Judy Surprise; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. The Right Reverend Daniel Keller of Our Lady of Walsingham Orthodox Christian Church will deliver a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, at the City Hall Auditorium, Huntington, with visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. Because of Charlie’s dedication to the many animals that he rescued over the years, donations may be made to Little Victories Animal Rescue. Henson Mortuary, Barboursville, WV is caring for the family.
