Kimberly “Kim”
Courtney Sluss, 56, of Scott Depot, W.Va. passed away, Friday,
September 9, 2016. She was born September 16, 1959 in Cumberland, MD. the
daughter of the late, Darrell W. “Buddy” Courtney and Alma Wertman. She
was Deputy Putnam County Clerk, a graduate of Keyser High School, attended
Potomac State College and Marshall University. In addition to her parents,
she was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Al L. and Joan Sluss of
Fort Ashby, W.Va; her grandparents, Ellison and Rose Courtney and John and
Frances Wertman. Kim loved life to the fullest and enjoyed riding on
the motorcycle with Steve, as well as visiting local wineries, unique
local restaurants and state parks. She especially loved to vacation in the
Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. She was an active member of the Greater
Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) of Charleston and the GFWC Capital Club.
She was looking forward to being “Mimi” to twins Connor and Owen Wing who
are due in January. She is survived by her husband of nearly 36
years, Stephen C. Sluss of Scott Depot, W.Va; her son, Michael Sluss of
Hurricane, W.Va., and her daughter, Amanda Wing and husband Matt of
Frederick, MD; sisters, Tina Hall of Pinellas Park, FL, Amy Cook and her
husband Josh, and Samantha Courtney all of Morgantown, W.Va; brothers,
Darrell “Craig” Courtney and his wife Yevette of Antioch, W.Va. and John
E. Courtney of Pinellas Park, Fl; sister-in-law, Karen (Sluss) Graziano
and her husband Mike of Palmyra, VA; step-mother, Barbara Courtney of
Boston, MA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved very
much.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Henson & Kitchen
Mortuary, 6357 E. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, W.Va. with Rev. Daniel
Kimble officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until
service time on Tuesday at the mortuary. A separate memorial service will
be held at a later date in Mineral County for her friends and family
there.
