Paul Douglas Harvey, 82, of Barboursville, West Virginia went to be with our Lord on April 21st, 2017 at his home in Barboursville after an extended illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Brenda Legge Harvey; his daughter Deborah (Debbie) Harvey Bennett; P. Douglas (Doug) Harvey Junior; grandchildren, Christopher Browning (Gina), Alaina Harvey Pierson (Scott), Autumn Harvey, Cara Harvey Blankenship (Jeremy), all of Barboursville; and one great-granddaughter Adalynn Pierson; nieces, Tomma Napier Carter of Huntington, Diane Adkins of Huntington; nephews, Charles (Chuck) Napier of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark Napier (Kathleen) of Barboursville, Don Harvey (Connie) of Huntington, Ted Harvey (Carol) of Lesage, Shayne Barbour (Christy) of Barboursville and Robert "Gene"Melba (Ann) of South Point, OH. and many special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and additional nephews and nieces.  Paul is preceded in death by his father and mother; Hez and Louvist Harvey, his two brothers, Harold and Bob Harvey, and his three sisters: Genevieve Beaman, Isabelle Harvey and Margaret Napier.  Paul has been a lifelong resident of Huntington and Barboursville. He graduated from HEHS in 1953. Paul then joined the U.S. Army and served three years during the Korean Conflict. He received two meritorious promotions as a Radio Intercept Code Operator. Paul earned his AB and MA degrees from Marshall University. Paul served on the Huntington Police Department for eleven years and also served as a Federal DEA Agent. After leaving the DEA, Paul served as a member of the Governors Committee on Crime, Delinquency, and Corrections for four years. While with the GCCDC, Paul traveled throughout West Virginia evaluating Criminal Justice facilities and prepared Federal grants to update their programs and equipment. Paul designed the Criminal Justice Degree program at Marshall University and taught freshman students.  Paul was formerly a member of the West Virginia Republican Party Committee. He ran for the office of Cabell County Magistrate and served in many areas of community service over the years. Paul previously was on the Board of Directors for the Veterans Honor Flight of Huntington.  In past years, Paul was employed as a Case Manager and Director of Green Acres Regional Center Foundation, also serving as a CASA volunteer. As an entrepreneur, Paul owned a number of Huntington businesses and took great pride in his portrait and wedding photography services.  Paul was a member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, serving as Church Photographer, Usher, and Host. Paul completed two years of Bible study through Berean Bible College and was granted an Honorary Doctorate of Christian Counseling.  Paul’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all his family and friends who knew and loved him.  The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, April 23rd from 6 to 8 PM at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary in Huntington, W.Va. with full honor guards provided by the Huntington Police Department. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Henson and Kitchen Mortuary, Huntington, W.Va. with Dr. Tim Yates and Rev. Richard Sexton officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #16 in Huntington, W.Va. and the West Virginia Honor Guard. The family requests memorial donations to be made in Paul's honor to Hospice of Huntington.
