David G. Briers

David G. Briers, 70, of Huntington, died Monday, August 23, 2010 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. David was born September 29, 1939 in Hinton, WV, a son of the late William Jennings and Mildred Cheetam Briers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Bill Briers. He was retired from CSX Transportation and served his country as a Sea Bee with the United States Navy. Mr. Briers was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church and a former Cabell County Sherriff’s Department Chaplin. He loved to travel the world, loved aviation so much so that he built his own airplane and was a Civil War confederate re-enactor. Surviving is his wife of 47 years of which he married in 1962 in Spain while serving in the Navy, Raquel Blanes Briers; a son, David G. Briers of Huntington; three grandchildren, Brittany, Courtney and Ryan Briers, all of Huntington; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Briers and his wife Martha of Hinton, WV; a sister Joan Monroe and husband Jim of Hinton, WV; and a sister-in-law, sue Briers of Hinton, WV. A gathering of family and friends will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 by Pastors, Cle Egnor and Jack Mays at Klingel Carpenter Mortaury. No visitation will be prior to the service.
