Mr. Edwin Carter Wade, Jr.
of Huntington, W.Va. passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010. He was 86 years
old.
He was born September 2, 1923 in Bluefield, W.Va. the son
of the late Dr. Edwin C. and Ernestine B. Wade of Bluefield. He was a
retired registered professional electrical engineer for the Westinghouse
Electric Corporation where he worked for 35 years in Pittsburgh and
Huntington. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State
University at Blacksburg, Va. Mr. Wade was a past deacon of the First
Presbyterian Churches at Bluefield and Huntington. He was a past president
of the Presbyterian Church Quest Class. He was a past board member of the
Huntington Kiwanis Club and a past president of the Ohio Valley Camera Club.
He was a senior member and served on a National Committee of the Institute
of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and was a past president of the local
Ohio Valley Chapter. He wrote many technical articles, conducted seminars
and presented papers at conferences at Toronto, Canada, Orlando, Florida and
Morgantown, W.Va. In summers, he taught classes in coalmine electrification
at the Mine Safety and Health Administration at Beckley, W.Va. He was a
member of the PCHUG computer club and was active and served offices in the
General Andrew Lewis Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was an avid photographer and took many prize-winning
photographs.
He served in World War II as a crewmember on a B-17 bomber
with the 2nd Bomb Group of the 15th Air Force in Italy. He participated in
25 bombing missions and survived after being shot down on his 26th while
bombing an oil refinery near Vienna, Austria. He was awarded the EAME
Service Medal with 4 bronze stars and the Air Medal with 2 oak leaf
clusters. He was a member of the 2nd Bomb Group Association and attended
reunions of survivors from the group. He was a member of VFW Post 9738.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Chambers Wade, two
daughters; Virginia Stuart, wife of Bernard Meisler of Mill Valley, CA,
Katherine Ann, wife of Thomas Dawson of Berkeley, CA, three granddaughters;
Daisy Theodora Meisler, Luciann Rose Meisler, and Lily Beth Dawson, and a
sister, Daisy Wade Bridges, wife of Henry P. Bridges of Charlotte, N.C.
Memorial services will be conducted at the First
Presbyterian Church at 2:00, Saturday, September 4, 2010, followed by a
gathering of family and friends. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends and
family may donate to the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, WV,
Virginia Tech (Gift Accounting, University Development (0336), Blacksburg,
VA 24041), or the charity of one’s choice.
