Robert L. Godbey
January 21, 1932 - January 23, 2010



Robert L. Godbey, 78, of Huntington, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born January 21, 1932 in Wickham, W.Va., a son of the late Homer Basil and Leona Shrewsbury Godbey and grew up in Mount Hope. He attended Marshall University and was a graduate of WVU Law School, a U.S. Army Veteran, past president of the Young Democrats, a Kentucky Col. and attended Grace Gospel Church. He retired after 50 years as an attorney in Huntington. He is survived by three sons, Robert L (Pattie) Godbey, II of Huntington, Michael W. (Nechama) Godbey of Louisville, Kentucky and W. T. (Sherri) Godbey of New Orleans, LA; three step children, Betty Jean Burley of Huntington, Doug (April) Sammons of Galloway, Ohio and Wendy Davis of Barboursville; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Alice, Basey, Cecil, Emilene, Jimmy and Mary Sue. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Ridgelawn Abbey of Devotion by the Rev. Hubert Harvey. Interment will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. Friends may call Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
