George Johnson Selvey

George J. Selvey Jr., 86, of Huntington, died Wednesday January 6, 2010 in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday January 8, 2010 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. George was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Kunz Selvey, the mother of his children; and his second wife Marj Jesse Selvey. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Jim Selvey and wife Carla of Roanoke, VA, Susan Selvey of Charleston, SC, and Bob Selvey and wife Mary Anne of Long Island, NY; two sisters, Janet Marple of Lexington, KY and Esther Tajima of New York, NY; eight grandchildren, Thomas, Stephen, Melissa, Andrea, Michael, Kristine, Mark and Herbert; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Amelia and Maddison. George will be missed by his dearest friend Anna Holstien.
George was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army Air Corp. He was a graduate of Marshall University. He worked and retired as a Certified Public Accountant and was a past president of the Huntington Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs. George was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church for 50 years and served as treasurer for many years. He was a resident of the Woodlands Retirement Community for 9 years. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service on Friday January 8, 2010 at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in memory of George Selvey.
