Ida Straus

Ida Straus, 96, of Huntington, died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at her home in the Woodlands. Ida was born May 29, 1914 in Nova Scotia, Canada; a daughter of the late Jack and Anna Elderman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Harold; two sisters, Lillian Colker and Faye Borstein and one brother, Al Elderman. Mrs. Straus was a member of the B’Nai Sholom Congregation, Hadassah and the B’Nai Sholom Sisterhood. She is survived by a daughter, Beth Penn of Arnold, MD and a granddaughter, Rachael Penn of Taos, NM; three nephews, Matt and Lee Colker and Allen Borstein and a niece, Ann Cohen. Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary by Rabbi David E. Wucher. Interment will follow in the B’Nai Israel section of Spring Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to the service. The family requests that those inclined to please omit flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the B’Nai Sholom Congregation or the organization of One’s choice.
