Frances Gullett Coburn
(April 20, 1919 - February 3, 2012)



Frances Gullett Coburn passed away at the Inn at Wyngate, Barboursville, WV on Friday February 3, 2012. She was born April 20, 1919 in Princess, KY and was preceded in death in 1966 by her husband Ralph L. Coburn, her parents, Gilbert G. and Lula Gullett, and her two sisters, Imogene Willard and Margaret Maxine Gullett, who died in childhood. Surviving are an aunt, Thelma Hall of Ripley, WV.; nieces and nephews Dr. Deborah Willard (Wallace Bever) LaBelle, FL., Melanie (Jim) Dailey, Palacios, TX, Steve (Victoria) Coburn, Dallas, TX, Dr. Keith Coburn (Victoria), Baytown, TX, Neil Coburn, Houston, TX, Merrie (Dr. Thomas) Wiley, Jackson, MS, Ron (Maggie) Riggan, Madison, MS and several cousins. Frances attended Braeholm Elementary School, Man Junior High and High School, Grundy (VA) High School, Welch High School, Morris Harvey College and Marshall University, where she was awarded a Master's Degree in Education. She served forty years as an elementary teacher and principal in Logan and Cabell Counties, touching many lives with her dedication to teaching and her kind heart. She loved her church homes, Amherstdale Community Church and Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served for many years as secretary. She was a Golden Life Member of the Woman's Club of Huntington, a Kentucky Colonel, a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Huntington Garden Club. Her life was dedicated to helping others through her profession as a teacher and through countless hours of community volunteer work. She served as a volunteer for 51 years at Red Cross, and considered it a great privilege to volunteer at nursing care facilities in Huntington and the Huntington Museum of Art. Services will be held at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington, WV at noon on Saturday February 11, 2012 with Rev. Kit Jenkins presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Burial will follow at Vinton Memorial Park in Vinton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the United Methodist Foundation of WV, Inc., PO Box 3811, Charleston, WV 25338-3811.
