Ronald Mason
Haeberle
(November 5, 1915 - February 22, 2012)
Ronald Mason Haeberle, 96, of
Huntington died Wednesday February 22nd at Cabell Huntington Hospital
surrounded by family. He was born in Charleston, WV on November 5th, 1915
the son of Sarah Leona Pugh Haeberle and Carl Fredrick Haeberle. He was
married to his life mate of over 70 years, Doris Elizabeth Downs Haeberle on
December 28, 1941. He attended schools in Charleston and Huntington,
graduating from Huntington High School in 1933. He graduated from Marshall
College in 1937. He served in the US Army during WWII as a 1st lieutenant.
He spent his working life in retail department stores. He began at
Bradshaw-Diehl and over the years served as retail manager in a variety of
departments, rising to the level of Vice-President. When Bradshaw –Diehl
closed, he was invited to join Anderson-Newcomb and later, Stone and Thomas.
He retired from Stone and Thomas in 1980. He was a life-long and passionate
member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Deacon, Elder, Church
School teacher, Leader of Cub Pack 12 and working with church youth groups
of all ages. He served the community on the Boards of the Campfire Girls and
Salvation Army and as a long time volunteer at the Huntington Museum of Art.
In retirement he and Doris enjoyed travel, seeing much of the country and
documenting the trips. He enjoyed baking and woodworking, and he shared the
results with those around him. He was preceded in death by his brother Carl
B. Haeberle. Survivors include his wife Doris and brother Howard of
Huntington, sons, Ronald M. Haeberle Jr. and his wife Harriet of Huntington
and Timothy Haeberle and his wife Sue of Spring Texas; Ronald and Harriet's
sons Jeffrey M. Haeberle and his wife Amy of Monroe, Ohio and their son
James, and David C. Haeberle and his wife Sarah of Cypress, Texas and their
sons Jacob and Luke, and Tim and Sue's son Hunter and daughter Heather; and
a special sister-in-law Jane Long of Huntington and her extended family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 28,2012 at
Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary by The Rev. Skip Seibel. Private interment will
follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 10:00 a.m. until service
time at the funeral home. The family wishes to express appreciation to the
doctors and staff of the Orthopedic and Intensive Care Units for their
efforts in care and comfort. Special thanks to the staff of the Woodlands
Community who have been caregivers and friends for 16 years. The personal
care and attention at Woodlands led to a fuller and more satisfying
retirement life. Memorial contributions may be made to the First
Presbyterian Church.
