"Bill" Andrew Lewis

Lawrence Andrew "Bill" Lewis, 90,
died Thursday, February 16, 2012, at his residence in Scottown, Oh. He was
born on June 1, 1921, in Ironton, Ohio. Bill was preceded in death by his
parents, Lawrence Henry Lewis and Mary Justice Lewis, and his wife of 67
years, Mary Howell Hawkins Lewis. He is survived by two daughters, Linda
Howell Lewis Rapier (Mark), Leslie Drew Lewis Estep (Richard), five
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and
cousin Walter Gregory. Bill graduated from Elizabeth Rural High School in
May 1938. In 1944, he entered the Federal Service in the Army of the United
States Air Corps and served as First Lieutenant with the 45th Air Depot. He
was a pilot and flew troops in Germany during World War II. Following his
honorable discharge, he entered the United States Air Force Reserve where he
served as Major assigned to the 9490th Air Reserve Squadron. Bill was a
machinist by trade and as vice-president at Walker Machinery, he managed the
Walker Lift division in Huntington until his retirement. His funeral service
will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Klingel Carpenter
Mortuary by the Rev. Hubert Harvey. Interment will follow in Spring Hill
Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until service time. Pallbearers
include grandsons Marc A. Stollings, Matthew D. Stollings, Christian A.
Hartzog, Jason A. Hartzog, Barry Mount and Timothy Thacker. The family
requests no flowers. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of
Huntington.
