Dr. Ernest Bowie Kahle

Ernest
Bowie Kahle,
72, of Huntington, died on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Emogene Dolin Jones
Hospice House in Huntington. He was born on July 22, 1940 in Bluefield, West
Virginia, to the late Ernest
Bowie Kahle,
Sr. and Mary Crawford Kahle. He was also
preceded in death his wife, Frances Hight Kahle
and his sister, Virginia Lee Kahle. He is
survived by his son, John (Bridget) Kahle
of Columbus, Ohio, and three granddaughters, Anna, Caroline, and Elizabeth.
He is also survived by Carol Bandy Brown, a special friend.
Dr. Kahle
received his Bachelor of Science degree from Concord College and obtained
his Masters Degree and Ph.D. from West Virginia University. He was a retired
Marshall University faculty member of the College of Science and College of
Medicine, with positions in Physiology and Family Medicine. A biochemist
with special interest in metabolism of muscle and genetics in obesity,
Dr. Kahle
focused his research in chromosome mapping of obesity genes and also
initiated a study of human obesity genetics in central Appalachia.
Dr.
Kahle was an elder and active participant
in the Presbyterian Church. He participated in the renovation of First
Presbyterian Church in Huntington in the 1980s and later, the renovation of
the prayer chapel and its columbarium. A gathering of friends and family
will be held at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary on Monday, November 12, at 3:00
p.m. with a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. A fellowship dinner will follow at
Marshall University Campus Christian Center, John Marshall Drive. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, 1101
Sixth Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701.
