Osborn,86, husband of Joline
Nichols Osborn, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012,
in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV.
Ted was born in Floyd Co. Ky. on July 1,
1926, a son of the late Clarence L. and Virginia Adams
Osborn. He moved to Ashland at the age of 5
and attended Ashland public schools. He served in the United States Air
Force before attending Ashland Junior College and graduating from
Transylvania University. Ted
was a land developer in Lexington, Ky. and served as president of Kiwanis
International during the administrative year of Oct. 1, 1975 through Sept.
30, 1976. Prior to his election to the presidency of the worldwide service
organization, he served as president-elect, treasurer, vice-president and
trustee of Kiwanis International. He also served as president of the Kiwanis
Bluegrass Club in Lexington, and as lieutenant governor, secretary and
governor of the Kentucky-Tennessee District. He was President of the Kiwanis
International Foundation for the 1991-1992 administrative year. He served as
trustee, treasurer and president - elect of the Foundation. He was a George
F. Hixson Diamond Fellow, Life Fellow, and his name is inscribed on the
Tablet Of Honor of the Kiwanis International Foundation. He has been a
Kiwanian since 1954 with perfect attendance. He was the first former member
of the Kiwanis sponsored high school organization, Key Club International,
to become president of Kiwanis International. He is a Fellow of the
University of Kentucky. He served as chairman of the Airport Zoning Board of
Appeals in Lexington, Chairman of the Selective Service Board, and is a past
president of the Lexington Sub-dividers Association. He was a member of the
board of counselors of Oxford College of Emory University and was a member
of the board of advisors of Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC. Active in
civic and service work in addition to his Kiwanis and his professional
interests, Ted was a founder and past
president of the Lexington Junior Achievement; a former vice-president of
the National Junior Achievement Board, a regional board member of the Boy
Scouts of America, past president of the YMCA, Past President of the
Community Recreation Association, former campaign chairman of the United
Community Fund, past state chairman of the Easter Seals Campaign, past
president of Transylvania College National Alumni Association, past
president of the Y's Men's Club and past president of Big Brothers of
Lexington. He was regional vice president of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of
America. Ted
was president of the International Book Project, which sends thousands of
books to third-world countries. He was president of the Board of Project
Concern International, which provides primary health care to the needy in
various countries around the world. He was a trustee of Freedoms Foundation
of America, appointed by President Gerald Ford. He served two terms in the
Kentucky State Legislature and was vice chairman of the State Commission of
Higher Education. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Over the most recent years
of his life, he became a duel resident of Huntington as well as Lexington.
His diverse interests included membership in clubs in both cities. In
Lexington he was a member of the Bluegrass Kiwanis Club, Lexington Country
Club and Spindletop Hall. In Huntington he attended Trinity Episcopal Church
and was member of the Gypsy Club, City Club, Noon Club and Guyan Golf and
Country Club. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one son, Lee
Adams Osborn, one sister Dorothy
Osborn Poland and three brothers, Clarence,
William, and Gene. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son,
Ted R. Osborn,
Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky and two daughters, Zan (John) Gregory and Holly
Osborn of Kingsport, Tenn.; one
granddaughter; Shelby Nicasio of Kingsport, TN and seven grandsons;

Gregory (Natalie) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Jonathan Wheeler Gregory (Stacie) of
Mt Pleasant, SC, Jansen Adams Gregory (Meredith) of Winston-Salem, NC,
Gabriel McKinney of Kingsport, TN, Chase Riggs of Lexington, KY, Tyler
Osborn of Lexington, KY and four great
grandchildren. Also surviving is daughter-in-law Kendra
Osborn (Lee) of Lexington, KY. A memorial
service will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Trinity Episcopal Church,
Huntington, at 11:30 a.m. visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. at the church. In
lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Kiwanis
