Camden Garrett

Camden
Garrett, 96 passed away
peacefully on Jul 18, 2013 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Cam was
preceded in death in 1997 by his wife of 53 years, Ruby Conn
Garrett. Born on August 20, 1916 he was the
9th of 12 children of Seymour and Helen Garrett.
His brothers and sisters Ruth, Easter, Arthur, Elizabeth, Lee, Rebecca, Edna
Mae, Amron, Joe Wheeler, Freda and Douglas all preceded him in death. He is
survived by two daughters and sons in law, Pattie and Tom Walker of
Huntington and Judi and Chuck Moore of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He was the
most wonderful grandfather to three grandsons, Stephen Walker and fiancée
Michelle Piegaro of Cornelius, NC, Garrett
and Amber Walker of Huntington, and Chip and Erin Moore of Jacksonville
Beach, FL. He was "great" grandfather to Maddox Richard and Marshall Walker,
and Camden and Taylor Moore. Cam worked for
Columbia Gas Transmission for 45 years before retiring in 1981. He served as
Superintendent of the Huntington district and Area Manager of Prestonsburg,
Ky. He served in WWII in five battles and campaigns including the Battle of
the Bulge as a tank driver with the 774th Tank Battalion for which he
received a Purple Heart. His family would like to thank the caregivers for
making his life so pleasant the past 19 months. We want to thank especially
Lisa Broce and Betty Watson for being with him the entire time. He was a
member of First Baptist Church of Prestonsburg, KY but attended faithfully
Central United Methodist Church in Huntington after returning to Huntington
in 2003. Flowers are welcome and donations to Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice
House in Huntington, WV. would be appreciated. We appreciate everyone at the
Hospice House. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 22
at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary by Rev. Ford Price. A visitation will be held
from Noon until service time. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
