Edith
Elaine Marcum
Johnson, 86, of Huntington, passed away September 5,
2013. A graveside memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, September

Edith was born in Ranger, WV, Lincoln
County, on May 12, 1927 to Winfield Winson Marcum and Sally Finley Marcum.
Edith graduated from Guyan Valley High
School, Lincoln County, in 1944. She married Charles Clavis
Johnson on January 7, 1948 in Loveland,
Colorado. Edith's parents, Winfield Winson and Sally Marcum; siblings George
Marcum, Ruth Marcum, Callie Marcum Lawson and her loving husband Charles
Clavis Johnson precede
Edith in death. Edith's sisters: Gladys
Breeding (husband, Arthur "Tiny" Breeding) and Willa McComas (husband, Cecil
R. McComas); children Lynette Johnson and
Stephen Marcum Johnson (wife, Janie Grant
Johnson); grandson Stephen Benjamin
Johnson; a special and loving long-time friend, Gene Elkins; and many
precious nieces and nephews, survive her. Edith
lived a life of love for her family and of personal accomplishment. She and
Clavis created a family unit characterized by hard work, self-reliance and
significant achievement. They built or extensively remodeled several homes
together, sent their children to college and passed along their sense of
pride for having worked for their goals. Edith
created and built a successful gifts and antiques business in Houston, Texas
during the 1970's and 80's. She was passionate about politics, antiques and
design. Edith loved to warmly welcome her
customers to her store, many of whom became lifelong friends. She will
forever be remembered for her creativity, style, business savvy as well as
for her love of her entire extended family. The love, care, and dedication
that a special caregiver, Benna Grube, showed in the final days of Edith's
life will never be forgotten by her very grateful family. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of
Huntington, a beautiful facility to which the family wishes to extend their
heartfelt gratitude for their gentle and loving care these final days of
Edith's life.
