James L. Schafer

James L. Schafer, 76, of Proctorville, Ohio, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 by the Rev. Jeff Black at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary. Interment will follow in Forrest Lawn Memorial Park. James was born February 1, 1937 in Huntington, WV, son of the late Joseph and Cora Matthews Schafer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Delores L. Schafer; a brother, Charles Schafer and by two sisters, Eve and Dorothy. He was retired from Sell and Serve Marketing and additionally was a member of the First Baptist Church of Proctorville, OH. Survivors include his children, Jay McDowell and his wife, Kerith of Tampa, FL; Sherri Hoback and husband Roger of Chesapeake, OH; three grandchildren, Roger Hoback III., Andrew and Allie McDowell; a brother, Joe Schafer and wife Marcetis of Wayne Co. And by several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Proctorville, 627 Co. Rd. 411, Proctorville, OH 45669. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.
