Geraldine Emma Taylor
(February 15, 1930 - September 3,
2014)
Geraldine E. “Jerry” Taylor, 84, a
resident of the Woodlands Retirement Community in Huntington, died Tuesday,
September 2, 2014 after a short illness. Born February 15, 1930, she was
third of the nine children of Voyle and Amy Linger Mitchell. She was a
loving, caring, and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her
home and table were always open to anyone. She was an excellent cook,
seamstress, and knitter; a loyal Mountaineer fan; and loved playing and
winning games of all types, most notably dominos, cards, golf, or croquet. A
faithful Christian, Jerry was always active in her church, and most recently
was a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to her
parents, Jerry was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Floyd H. Taylor,
Jr., in 2009, by her brother Gene Mitchell and sister Katie White. She is
survived by her four children and their spouses: Janice T. Kruger (Michael)
of Simsbury, Connecticut; Joel E. Taylor (Mary) of Goodrich, Michigan; Joyce
E. Spencer (Dirk) of Huntsville, Alabama; and Jeffrey A. Taylor (Mary) of
Huntington. Six siblings also survive her: Shirley Maley (Glen) of
Clarksburg; Howard Mitchell (Doris) of Clarksburg; James Mitchell of
Huntington; Tom Mitchell (Lana) of Weston; Charles Mitchell (Roberta) of
Kenova; and Linda Barker (Jerry) of Youngstown, Ohio. Jerry is survived by
her seven grandchildren: Joshua A. Kruger (Sarah) of Simsbury, Connecticut;
James E. Taylor of Goodrich, Michigan; Zachary Mitchell Kruger of Telluride,
Colorado; Jennifer E. Beaudoin (Matt) of Ferndale, Michigan; Jedediah
Spencer of Huntsville, Alabama; Erin Rose Taylor of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania; and Hanna Mitchell Taylor of Huntington. She also leaves three
great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends in all the
places she made her home in Point Pleasant, Logan, Charleston, Cross Lanes,
and the Woodlands in Huntington. A celebration of her life will be held at
Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, 513 Tenth Street, Huntington, WV,
on Saturday, September 6 at 11 A.M. The family will receive visitors at 10
A.M. until service time. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens
in Cross Lanes. In lieu of flowers, Jerry had requested that memorial
donations be made to The Floyd H. Taylor and Geraldine E. Taylor Memorial
Trust, c/o United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia, Inc., P. O. Box
3811, Charleston, WV 25338 or to the charity of your choice.
