Barbetta Louise Neal
(May 11, 1932 - March 29, 2018)



Barbetta Louise Neal, 85, of Huntington, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 29th, 2018, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born May 11, 1932 in Taylor County, W.Va., daughter of the late Herschal T. Sturms and Virginia Marteny Sturms. Barbetta attended Huntington East High School, graduating in 1950, and worked as a keypunch operator at the Herald-Dispatch where she met her husband. They married in June of 1953, living in Washington D.C and New York City, they moved back to Huntington in 1964 to start a family.  She was a very active member of The Woman’s Club of Huntington and held multiple offices including First Vice President, chaired many committees and earned her 50-year membership pin in 2017. As a philanthropist, she volunteered for numerous organizations including: Contact of Huntington, The Beverly Hills Garden Club and tutored at Gallaher Elementary School. She was also a member of the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church and P.E.O. Chapter M, where she helped promote educational opportunities for women. Barbetta was passionate about the arts: a founding member of the Gala Dance Club, participated in the Gay Capers Performing Troupe, and took joy in supporting local theatre. Barbetta had many hobbies. She loved to cook and would frequently make cakes for her loved ones with her beloved icing recipe. She was an avid book reader, adored the cinema and enjoyed going on dinner and movie dates with her husband. Barbetta belonged to a special group of friends called the Elegant Rowdies and treasured the time she got to spend meeting for birthdays, and holidays. She was devoted to her grandchildren and cherished watching them grow and thrive. She leaves behind her Husband of 65 years, Donald L. Neal of Huntington WV; one Son, Todd A. Neal and his Wife Allison Enslow Neal of Sykesville, MD; Three Grandchildren, Lauren N. Neal and Her husband Charles L. Koontz, III of Gaithersburg MD; Margaret B. Neal of Winston-Salem NC; and Cooper T. Neal of Sykesville, MD; One Brother, Herschal T. Sturms and his Wife Patricia A. Sturms of Dublin, Ohio; One Niece and One Nephew also in the Columbus area. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is assisting the family.
