Robert Charles Martin
(December 31, 1924 - December 15, 2013)



Robert Charles Martin, 88, passed away Sunday December 15, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Lenita Pearl (Gothard) Martin. Bob was born December 31, 1924 in Huntington, WV a son of the late James E. Martin, Sr. and Thelma Poulton Craig. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by three brothers James, Jr., Donald Lee and Harry Russell and one sister Cora Mae Scott. Survivors include his two children Nancy Sue Samples and Craig Nelson Martin. Bob worked at some good jobs in his time including electric welder in a ship yard in Baltimore, MD, railroad brakeman, policeman on the Huntington Police Department and over 17 years in the oil trade. He was a district supervisor when he had to retire in 1996 because of health reasons. He served five years in the US Marine Corps, was discharged as a SGT. with the Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and expert Rifleman Badge. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Bob will be buried beside his wife in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call from 10:30 am until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Bob requested that no flowers be sent.
